Day 1 of YoReCa 09 (Moto-Moto)
Right. We got here today and waited until like 9.00 a.m. Then we had our registration.
We played a few icebreakers and got to know each other...
We came out with a flag with our own motto and mascot. Guess what it is?
A CACTUS! BWAHHAHAHHA
And our group name? MOTO-MOTO~
It was named after the hippo in Madagascar 2. (It's African for "hot hot")
Anyway, we chose a cactus because it symbolizes perserverance and a "never give up" attitude.
And our motto for Moto-Moto (pun intended... Try saying that 10 times quickly...) was 'RAIN OR SHINE, NEVER SAY DIE' .
The cactus refuses to sway despite living in a very harsh enviroment... We kinda found it inspiring... XD
Later, we had our lunch together. The food was quite interesting; Chicken wings, vegetables and tofu. There was even a vegetarian dish for our vegetarian friend.
We made our way to SCDF @ Queenstown. The place was GINOURMOUS!
They gave us a briefing (actually it was quite long) about the Saftey procedures that can be put in place during an emergency... Hmmm... Interesting.
Later there were a few practical demos for us to have an interactive experience. We were asked to seal a room until it was practically airtight. This was to prevent a leakage of gaseous chemicals into the room. But, enough with the long words.
We went to the ground floor of the building and they showed us a few "exhibits", including an array of HazMat (Hazardous Materials) detectors. The radiation detector was LOOOOOOOONG! 4.3 m to be exact. :D
They showed us the decontamination process that is used when there is a chemical leakage. We saw the decontamination suit, also known as the teletubby suit. The whole suit weighs about 35 kilos! Imagine wearing that into the chemical leakage site! ;P Not only that, they only had one hours' worth of air supply. Talk about hardcore!
We came back to NACLI, we played a game which was really FUN and interesting, called Confidence Skip....it needed lots of teamwork, articulation and presence of mind.
We had our dinner, after that we had a talk about the topic of terrorism for about an hour.
We brainstormed about the general topic and presented our ideas at the end. It was definitely something that got our brains working... :D
Later we had a quiz about everything we had learnt thus far. we got 4 points. we're 2nd plac.. :(
Nvm we'll catch up tomorrow...
That's all we have for today
Seeya!
