Miss YoReCa!

Hello happy campers! After 3 crazy days, we are now on the last day of the camp :( Time flies when u r having fun rite? Well, we hope you remember the lessons you learnt and more importantly, keep the friendships you have made. On this last day of the camp, let's look at these lovely ladies of YoReCa! Are they participating in the Miss YoReCa beauty pageant??? :)
Day 3 Yoreca3!
Felicia was the parade commander rachel, skunk and shu yuan were the flag raisers.
After flag raising we had morning exercise as usual it was tough. [Whoo!]
BREAKFAST
After breakfast , we were split into 2 groups and we went for the first challenge which was
the plank and the acid river. Was a tough time and we needed more team work and much more resilience to get to the other side.
After which it was the second station which was the pool whereby we needed to cross over from one end of the pool AKA 'the shore' TO the 'pit' AKA (again) YoReCa Island. But first we had to make a commitment to YoReCa, like let's say 'I, (your name), commit to be more confident and open and 101% committed to the my group and for my future!' MUAHAHAHHA. =.=
LUNCH was simply..... Ohmymama sweetnessly tastily YUMMY!!!!!!!!!
Then we had a lecture (yes, lecture again. That's what the whole camp's partially about. Notice I said only ' PARTIALLY '). It was a brief one. (:
TEA BREAK! [Seriously, it was a surprise but the food was acceptable, a lot. Ohoh! Me love char siew. I ate 3 of it!]
Hoho, then we get the privilage to do the detrainment exercise. Was long, fun, crazy (due to the fogging) and we had the whole train to ourselves, not forgetting the train track, platform D too!) People were staring at us, with ENVY. MUAHAHAHAHHAA~
Then, we travelled to another location, SBS Transit. It's cool, aw-sa-ohm and the aircon was pretty nice to smell too. [No link, yeah.]
We learned a lot more on times of emergencies and how to handle it CALMLY and professionally.
Again, Practicals and all. Tada! Done.
Went back quite late, and it was the really CRAZIEST ride we ever had cos' we're laughing together as a team, and not to mention: FIVE MINUTES OF SILENCE. So what did we do? Wwe used hand signals. BIG ONES at that.
DINNER. Last dinner (sob sob) [k I made it sound so sad right?]. As usual, it's delicious. What to expect? We're in a camp with cool and hip and PRETTEH instructors right? Can't help it so the chefs also very good standard, cook until Skunk said that the vegetarian food here was the SECOND BESTEST, other than his mum.
No wash up though, cos we had VOLLEYBALL! The edited version.
Apparently, sadly, yes sadly, we lost. BUT!!!!!! We lose with fun, teamwork and had a lot of FUN! Oh yes, then we all decided toplay soccer and all aim for skunk. He has to block (he's the goal keeper mah!) and man was he good at it. I mean, two balls at a time and able to defend it off? WOW. So, being the very lovely teammates, we improved his skills by shooting ALL four balls TOGETHER. He, managed to catch one and struggled with the rest. ><
*yawn* We're now discussing for our presentations tomorrow and most of us showered (smell much better) and some are going to crash soon, so ciao~
Don't sleep too late readers.
Goodnight.
YoReCa3!!!!
MOTO-MOTO WHOOLALA!
p.s. We know WE ROCK in your heart forever right? *blows kisses*
day 3 of YoReCa Camp
The routine was as followed with some new improvised jumping jack and also what we've did yesterday. We headed for breakfast, we had black noodles and nuggets :D
We went for challenge pit, it is a situation whereby every team member need to say out his/her commitment and swing from one end to another platform called the Random Island. The difficulties that we faced were some lack of confidence as the water was the obstacle and also the lack of trust among the group. BUT, we managed to make it through to the Random Island, followed by our group cheer which was also random.
After that we proceed to the team challenge rescue, it is about getting from one end to another by staying connected. We had to stand on planks and move together as a group. Our group thinks that we should have better communication and remain calm at all times during the whole game and also PROCESS IS ALWAYS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE RESULTS! Group 1 came in first with a total score of 79! Followed by group 2 with a total score of 84. :D
We had a talk by the SMRT people about what should we do during emergency. It was fun as we learnt about how to communicate to the train captain via the Emergency Communication Button (ECB), also about other kinds of emergency buttons. And where the buttons are located at the platform or in the train.
We learnt about HOT and SALUTE protocol. It is to help us to identify suspicious articles and person. We can apply it at all times, at any time, and everywhere! :D We can log on to the website http://www.safejourney.sg/ It is a website targeted at youths of our age to know more about how what precaution to take during emergencies.
After lunch, we travelled to the Ang Mo Kio MRT station and had a brief talk about what we have learnt during the earlier talk. We also went to the Bishan Depot and apply what we've learnt, by using the emergency door located at the ends of the train in times of crisis. We had a short tea break and left for the Soon Lee Depot.
At the depot, we had a talk by the personnel and viewed the control room and had a reenactment of what would likely happened when a suspicious article is being detected in the bus.
We reached the campsite about 7.45pm and had dinner before having friendly matches with other groups of a game of improvised volleyball. :D
That's all for the day, today is our last night here, and we would be going home tomorrow...SAD.
Nights for the day!
3rd day.last night
today activities was fun and very superduper fun.
we enjoy every part of the games.
we had TEAMWORK..COURAGE TO TRY OUT NEW STUFFS.
we learnt to be patients.
eventhough we lost the game,we didnt give up.
we try harder and we did it.

and its the last day of our night here.
we hope we could get this oppurtunity again next year.

EACH MOEMORIES OF US BEING TOGETHER AS A TEAM WILL ALWAYS BE TREASURED.
Up next was the Land Transport Authority (Community Emergency Preparedness Awareness Talk). This talk really prepared us regarding the each and single important people who play a part by being resilience through sight, actions, hearing. Furthermore, we had lunch and some people even pledged to have less for the lunch previously at the Team Challenge Rescue. After lunch, feeling sleepy, we continued to the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit Community Preparedness Awareness Talk. It certainly was an enriching programme and it surely beefed us up in terms of being vigilant. We also had a shot at the detrainment exercise, where we exited a train through the emergency exit. Next up was the SBS Transit. We had a dry run on what we should do when there is indeed an attempted terrorist attack. We also know more about the Operation Control Centre. This gave us an insight of what should be done when such things happen. We then realised how fortunate Sinaporeans are, we have the various ministries, department and even the involvement of the public to establish a safe and secure of the nation. We all can be the builders of the safe and secure nation. We then had dinner and volleyball games. We both lost and won a match. Through this simple fun and engaging games we learn to have good communication skills, team spirit, the spirit of encouraging, never give up attitude and keep a cool head. As there a saying , your ATTITUDE determines your ALTITUDE.This is the last night and our team would like to take the oppurtunity to thanks the YoReCa camp coordinators, trainers, the MICA, People Association for giving us the chance to attend this very enriching and meaningful camps.

A long day & fun day
After that , we proceeded to have our wonderful breakfast .
The breakfast was indeed delicious .
Then we went for our 3rd challenge which was challenge pit .
The challenge was very challenging & it requires us to have alot of confidence and believe in ourself in order to do it .
All of our group members were able to clear the challenge .
We were also asked to say out our commitment before taking the leap .
After the 3rd challenge , we went for our 4th challenge which was named " team challenge rescue "
The game is to travel from 1 end to the other end , there are also bonus points if we picked up things on the way . The rules of the game is not to touch the floor & leave our planks / pontoons on the floor by themselves . The challenges we faced were tremendous & the proccess was fun !
We had to have good communications between us in order to succeed in this game .
Overall this game , trained our team spirit & enables us to learn from our mistakes .
After that we had a land transports authority ; community emergency preparedness awareness talk . The talk boosted our knowledge upon the proccedure of the emergency and also decribe the terror of being struck by terrorist in the public transports . That enabled us to be more prepared for any emergencies .
After that , we had 1 hour to eat our lunch .
The chicken wings was very tasty and delicious .
After the lunch we had a talk by the singapore mass rapid transit ; community emergency preparedness awareness . It taught us about "HOT" and " SALUTE" which stands for Hidden, Obviously suspicous, Typical of the environment and Size , Activities , Location , Uniform , Time , Equipments respectively .
It basically reinforced what was presented in the LTA talk earlier in the morning and thus we were able to further learn about the emergency proccedures.
After the talk, we travelled to Ang Mo Kio MRT station. On the way, our group, group 2, discussed for the project. When we arrived at our destination, we were taught about the practical uses for the emergency equipments. We even got to use the emergency phone which when used, connected to called directly to the mrt control station. We found the practical quite interesting as we were allowed to practice using the emergency equipment. We were allowed to use the 'crocodile clipper' , which are used to pick fallen stuff from the railway tracks. after that, we boarded the mrt to the bishan depot. during the trip to the bishan depot, the staff explained to us the emergency equipments in the mrt, such as, fire extinguisher, emergency communication button. when we reached the depot, we were given a real scenario that included smoke seeping in from outisde into the mrt, on how to use the emergency exit and evacuate safely. all in all, we found the practical about the MRT emergency equipment uses quite useful and when there is a real emergency, we can apply what we have learnt from this pracitical to that emergency. after that, we walked to their lecture room to have high tea.
after our stomachs were full from the tea, we boarded the bus to the sbs transit bus depot at Soo Lee. at Soo Lee depot, we had a lecture about the emergency procedures of the public buses. it also used the 'HOT' and 'SALUTE' procedures to identify a suspicous article and suspicous person respectively. after the lecture, we took a bus ride around the bus depot and was taught what to do when caught in an emergency involving an article that fulfilled the 'HOT' critieria. then, we went to the control room to learn what the emergency procedure was all about and what the bus captain does.
after that, we returned to NACLI. we reached NACLI at 7:45pm and we had dinner from 7:45 to 8:15pm. Then, we went for the modified volleyball game. what we found out from the volleyball game was that teamwork was seriously required in order to win the game. the game managed to let us look at the strengths and weaknesses of our group.
After that we had a small talk by our instructors. thats all for today 17/6/2009. =)

2nd day of YoReCa Camp 2009 (group 1)
today was a refreshing day for all of us! We had our morning exercises and went for breakfast. Dr Alex Su was our speaker of the day, he's a doctor from IMH. He talked to us about many things like how to handle situations after the disaster and also shared his experience with us.
We then proceed to the Home Team Academy (HTA). It was BIG! We had a lecture before going to the training village. It is a place where it seems like real situation. Trainees are taught to handle the situation and know what's the right thing to do at that point of time. We went to the centre whereby the trainer taught us what to do when disaster really come. The main thing was to be CALM and BRAVE, most importantly NOT TO PANIC.
We had our awesome lunch before leaving the place for ICA. We were welcomed by a video and also a speech. We had our tour around the area and also explore the job scope of the respective duties.
hope u all view and put some comments

we learnt to have confident ,teamwork and trust in your partner.
we reallie enjoy every games we had together.
hopefully we had more of this!!!!!!!!
This morning, we got to assemble at the parade square at 7.30am for flag raising and morning exercise.
The morning exercise is tedious. We had to do
- Push ups
- A modified variation of adominal stretch
- Crunches
- Squats
- Tip-toes
10 times in 3 sets! Although it was tedious, it was very refreshening and it woke all of us up.
After breakfast, we had a lecture by Dr Alex Su, psycharist from IMH. He was TalentTime champion too. :)
He talked to us about crises and disasters, and how the psycharists help to get the victims or their next of kins get over it.
We then headed our way to Home Team Academy. It was a great experience.
We had our lunch at the Mess. Once again, it was great.
After lunch, we made our way to the Immigration Checkpoint Authority.
We learnt about the challenges and threats that the officers there faced there. We saw how they check for any hidden dangerous items by the cool scanner!
Returned to NACLI,we had chicken rice for dinner! We sat in our groups and chat till the canteen was EMPTY!! haha GROUP 3 MOTO MOTO!!
Then we watched Without warning! It was horrifying!XD jus kiddin! it was nice and interesting!Ended the day with quiz and group discussion!

-Definition of a crisis : an event or situation as an intolerable difficulty that exceeds the person's resources and coping mechanisms.
- He quoted : " THE MOST POWERFUL PART OF COMMUNICATION IS LISTENING."
-Sang a song titled " IF " , pretty nice ;D
Aft the talk , we went to the Home Team Academy , aka HTA ;D
- Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprise ( SCORE ) : Helps ex-offenders to get back into society , i.e. Yellow-Ribbon.
-Key focus of the Home Team Academy : Counter-terroism training whereby real scenarios are given to develop real reflexes and competencies .
-Visited the various places around the Home Team Academy: Makeshift training areas whereby real scenarios are given i.e in a fast food restaurant , MRT cabins , etc . Walked around an exhibition which show cases the different reagents ( some examples to list : Nerve agents , Blood Agents , etc )
Went to the canteen and had a wonderful lunch [;
Aft that , we continued our outing to Immigration Checkpoint Authority , to learn about the treaats and challenges at the Tuas Checkpoint .
- ICA : Integrity , Commitment : Accountability .
- 6 blocks of clearance for departure purposes , 4 blocks for arrival purposes , and a block for decontamination purpose whereby staff whom have been in contact with any chemicals will go to this block to wash up and thereafter , an ambulance will send him/her to the hospital for a furthur medical check-up .
-In 2oo8 , more than 23 million travellers and approximately 12 million vehicles entered/left the checkpoint ( Ratio of arnd 2:1)
-However , the number of travellers is expected to increase in the coming few years for there will be a few important and major events that will be conducted in Singapore , i.e. Youth Olympic Games , Integrated Resort to name a few .
-There are 3 different types of clearance stages .
1. Pre-clearance : Visas
2.Primary-clearance : Documents checks and Blacklist screening movement is legitimate and lawful .
3. Secondary clearance : checks on baggage/vehicle .
-->to ensure that the movement of conveyances are legitimate and lawful .
*It takes about an average of 5mins to 'clear' a vehicle at the checkpoint !
- Controlling agencies :

A very goodnight to you guys , by the Operation Resilience ;D
swtdreams , aye . And yea guys , HAVE FUN ! Twees*
Next we went to the Immigration Checkpoint Authority: Threats and Challenges at the Tuas Checkpoint. We understood further how the ICA works and even improved with the advancing techonology. The ICA plays an important role in Singapore's security, ensuring a safe and secure nation. We went to stations whereby the officers explained to us how they work and such. Dinner back at camp NACLI. We had the Communtiy Solving Programme Session. Videos were screened and there were questions asked and we had to answer and even prepare a skit which gives us a first-hand experience on presenting a skit which will be important on the last day of the camp. Lastly we had the quiz of the day and give the $10 Popular voucher again which our group did not win anything. Our team once again scored the maximum marks for the quiz but overall we were tied with group 3 in 3rd place. -.-. Nevertheless our team will not give up and continue to soar high which we promise to uphold in the first day of the camp.

Day 1 at YoReCa!
1. arrived
2. sat with our schools
3. registered
4. opening speech by the director of MICA
5. discussed aims and objectives of camp : how we should be moreaware of the terror threats in Singapore and around the world and how we should be resilient in facing these threats.
6. finally got to mingle with other school. made friends. ice breakers by Cherilyn. designing of our very own special flag! woooooo~
7. lunch. was very very wonderful (?)
8. left for Alexandra SCDF. we sat through out afew lectures talking about emergency procedures, peacetime emergencies, unconventional terror threats(both global and national). then we went to a chamber in which we had to practice our In-Place Protection (IPP) knowledge,by experiencing a first hand account of all the essential steps of IPP procedures
9. the fieldtrip was extremely insightful, especially in emphasizing the need to be forever ready to face these ever-present terror threats in Singapore. We have to come to understad in greater detail the ubiguity of such threats around the world, and the fear and tension that we may experience when we are actually caught in these situation.
10. very often, especially in Singapore, we take our safety for granted. many of us forsake the need to be prepares to save ourselves or even others. the fieldtrip opened our eyes to see the terror and devastation that could result from these threats, and allowed us to personally feel these strong pangs of fear and unease as we attempted to save ourselves in the IPP drill.
11.when we returned to NACLI, we had our first challenge - the key punch. there were two pools of bombs on the floor, with paper plates being bombs. we were informed that we had to deactivate the bombs by hitting them with a (toy) hammer, that makes this weird quak quak sound, in sequence. what we did not know was that the numbers were in 5 different languages - english, numerals, chinese, malay and pictures etc...
12. in challenge we had one 'hitter' person, who was the only authorized member of our teams who could hit the plates in the pool. through the challenge, we learned that we should never (ever) panic in the face of a terror threat. althought this challenge was only a simulation, we realizd that we have to work together as a team throught the whole obstacle. especially regarding the wide variety of languages and extremely infuriating smiley faces, we had to corroborate and help on another to spot the elusive paper plates. this is very relevant to our lives, particularly in the fact that we cannot face a terror threat on our own, and instead calmly address the problem together.
13. the evening was extremely fun as well. our group managed to bond during the sharing session, we gained more knowledge about terrorism in singapore and the psychological impacts of the media on children and youth in particular. all in all, day one of our camp was enriching and enlightening, and we found that the main purpose behind all of this is to HAVE FUN!
Day 1 of YoReCa 09 (Moto-Moto)
We played a few icebreakers and got to know each other...
We came out with a flag with our own motto and mascot. Guess what it is?
A CACTUS! BWAHHAHAHHA
And our group name? MOTO-MOTO~
It was named after the hippo in Madagascar 2. (It's African for "hot hot")
Anyway, we chose a cactus because it symbolizes perserverance and a "never give up" attitude.
And our motto for Moto-Moto (pun intended... Try saying that 10 times quickly...) was 'RAIN OR SHINE, NEVER SAY DIE' .
The cactus refuses to sway despite living in a very harsh enviroment... We kinda found it inspiring... XD
Later, we had our lunch together. The food was quite interesting; Chicken wings, vegetables and tofu. There was even a vegetarian dish for our vegetarian friend.
We made our way to SCDF @ Queenstown. The place was GINOURMOUS!
They gave us a briefing (actually it was quite long) about the Saftey procedures that can be put in place during an emergency... Hmmm... Interesting.
Later there were a few practical demos for us to have an interactive experience. We were asked to seal a room until it was practically airtight. This was to prevent a leakage of gaseous chemicals into the room. But, enough with the long words.
We went to the ground floor of the building and they showed us a few "exhibits", including an array of HazMat (Hazardous Materials) detectors. The radiation detector was LOOOOOOOONG! 4.3 m to be exact. :D
They showed us the decontamination process that is used when there is a chemical leakage. We saw the decontamination suit, also known as the teletubby suit. The whole suit weighs about 35 kilos! Imagine wearing that into the chemical leakage site! ;P Not only that, they only had one hours' worth of air supply. Talk about hardcore!
We came back to NACLI, we played a game which was really FUN and interesting, called Confidence Skip....it needed lots of teamwork, articulation and presence of mind.
We had our dinner, after that we had a talk about the topic of terrorism for about an hour.
We brainstormed about the general topic and presented our ideas at the end. It was definitely something that got our brains working... :D
Later we had a quiz about everything we had learnt thus far. we got 4 points. we're 2nd plac.. :(
Nvm we'll catch up tomorrow...
That's all we have for today
Seeya!
FIRST DAY OF THE CAMP.
The Key Punch activity links us back to what we have learn in the morning and how did we apply it. It was quite meaningful and interesting which further bond the strangers into a bunch of good friends. We had a competition against all the groups which had to keep us working together as a team and gladly we got 2ND PRIZE.After dinner, we continued with the lectures on Ministry Of Home Affairs ( Threat of Terrorist Ideology). We even continued with the group discussion and Lionel and Jereld presented it.We had the quiz of the day and 5 given away $10 Popular Voucher. Everyone's mood was very high that Choy couldn't take it as she was very tired after 10pm. Everyone was trying to earn points for their teams. For teams wining, we were the first team as we got a total of 5 points. But it is just the first day so we had to maintain the team spirit and keep up with the good work.Good Night... Looking Forward to your special and eventful day tomorrow... Keep me posted on more of your insights...
