191108 team2 (:

It's day 3 at Yo-Re-Ka and we're still kickin' and alive.
They day was filled with fun, laughter and joy. Not forgetting certain values we've learnt during the activities.

Morning was the same as yesterday, we had our flag raising and morning exercise then our meal. This was followed by the SMRT Community Emergency Preparedness Training to brief us on what to expect for our field trip later in the afternoon.

We then had 2 challenges organised for our group. Both required good teamwork and communication skills. The first challenge we did was the Team Challenge Pit which required us to transport ourselves from one end of the pond to another small and pathetic floating platform which had to accomodate 2 teams consisting of at least 40 people, using a rope swing. We could see that communication skills were very important in this challenge, and that the confidence of each team member is tested. Those who were unable to make it over on their first try, perservered and eventually we accomplished our task in just 50 minutes.

Our next challenge, Team Challenge Rescue required us to transport certain "survival items" which even included a stretcher with "casualties" inside! [ which were 2 wooden planks ] there were many obstacles and overall, it was a challenge testing our honesty, team sprit, determination.

We went to Ang Mo Kio mrt station to apply what we had learnt from this morning's briefing. Then we did a detrainment exercise at the Bishan Depot. We arrived back to NACLI early and played a few team games, unfortunately, our team failed from being in first, second or third place, so ya.. we were last, as usual.

that's all for today! time to practice our dance

Today 19 November 2008

we have a talk on SMRT and not only a talk but we go to the A.M.K.... we have lot of fun and we got to use the Emergency phone and press the Emergency button when we saw a supicions thing or person...

i was happy that all the game that NACLI has put up for us today was very Fun and Enjoyment for me and everyone in the camp....

learning more thing about SmRt is the best for me
i also know that what to do when you see supicions thing in the train ....
i have the knowledge about this activity today

HI EVERYONE!!!

today was another good day. woke up at 7 but didn't want to leave the warm and comfy bed. that all changed when we did our flag raising and morning exercise, we sure did have so much fun! i love doing such activities like pushups and situps in the early morning. it really wakes me up! also, playing earthquake, fire, hunter helped.

after that, breakfast was especially brilliant because of the MILO :D :D :D next up was a lecture on safety issues by SMRT. it was followed by a video. both were highly informative, and we learnt many new things.

we worked as a team for the next two activities. the first was a game based on transporting our team, rations and most importantly, the casualty from one place to the other. we could not step on the grass and had to balance on logs, covering the gaps with planks. teamwork was paramount as we worked as one to try and achieve our goal. however, time ran short and we did not manage to complete the task, but it was an unforgettable opportunity for all.

we also played a second game in which we had to swing from a small wooden stool to a wooden island in the middle of an acid-filled pond. it was extremely nerve-wracking at first, but eventually, we did it! this proved we were able to trust that our teammates would be able to catch us and not let us fall into the pond. YAY

after that was lunch, followed by a trip to angmokio. it was really enlightening as we learnt about the various safety measures in place in our train stations. we even got the chance to sit on board a train and evacuate via the ramp! to top it all off, we were given a special SMRT gift pack!

when we arrived back at NACLI, we played a couple of games! one was a specialised volleyball game with the extra soft moon ball. the other was a memory game in which we recalled 30 items that had significance to the concept of resilience. at the end of the day, we did rather well for the volleyball but not for the memory game, which combined to give us 3rd place.

we'll be doing project discussions now! it's been extraordinarily fun at NACLI, and we think the organising team should consider the original 10 days camp for future years, instead of this shortened one. bye

Day 5x4-20+3 :)

Hello again everyone, we are back to bring you another post with a bang, very very big bang. :) If you still do not know who we are by now, you should be very very ashamed. Haha, I kidding I kidding. We are Pablo and Alex, your friendly filipinos. :)

Today morning, our group was in charge of the morning assembly and exercises. It was pretty good, we were exercise-d after that, and after singing the national anthem. Then, we played some funny game that up till now I have no idea what its called. Haha. It has something to do with squirrels and trees, and forest fires. Sounds dodgy. :p

Then we had breakfast. It was pretty good, and we ate quite a little bit. Not bad, not bad. After breakfast, there were 2 talks that the SMRT people gave us. There's something that I have to ask the YoReCa people. How come the people from SMRT came all the way to the campsite to give us the talks, and then we go over to the MRT station? Can't they give us the talk when we're at the place itself? And one more thing, did they taking the MRT here or car? I think they should take the MRT since they are from SMRT. :P

Next, there was lunch for everyone (Once again, we were still full). :) WE then went to the SMRT place. p.s i still dont understand why they come here. but it was funnn. we walked n slept n talked and listened and learnt everything about an mrt. we learnt that it was important to be aware for terrorist attacks. kids remember it is not good to talk to strangers:) and when you fall down on an mrt track, play dead, trust us, it works. we had teatime food there, when we were still full:) Then, we got goodie bags, but many of them were spoilt. some ppl at smrt bad people:( we came back and played gameee! we play volleyball with plastic ball. but we were really good. GREEN WARRIORS KICKED BUTT! we win volleyball and memory game. we smart and strong and resilient and learnt how to be resilient. NOW after 3 days of camp, we have become super strong like e bomb. THE CAMP IS THE BOMB!

BTW just so you know again, green warriors won everything:) and 130 dollars of vouchers. hehe everyone loser except us:P After we kicked butt, we had dinner, EVEN THOUGH WE WERE STILL FULL. we had chicken rice. then then everyone had briefing by PABLO AND ALEX. not beeing biased, they were the bomb. they make people laugh with powerpack talk. everybody happy.

Now we blog time. THIS IS IS THE BOMB. THIS CAMP IS THE BOMB. oh for next year, pls make it longer and give the kids less food. that way ppl learn more and no become fat. Hope you people have learnt alot from the alex and pablo post.

THIS SHALL BE E LAST POST. if u want us back, nothing money cant buy;)

K PEOPLE PEACE.

p.s THE MILO IS THE BOMB AND AND AND GREEN WARRIORS AREE THE WINNERS!

HAVE A GOOD LIFE!

Day 2 at YoReCa

Hi teams!

Thanks for your great blogs about your first day at the camp. Tell us how Day 2 went - what rocked and what put you to sleepzzzz... Also share what you've learnt, what has been most fun, whether the food is enough, and about the friends you've made! :)

2 Cool For Day 2

It is day 2 today, and we have Pablo Benedicto Lex Lutherin IV and Alex Fernando Garcia Lopez. BUT, you can just call us Pablo and Alex. :)

In the morning, we were supposed wake up by 7.30. So, being guys, we woke up at 7.15, and rushed down just in time. :) It was raining in the morning, so we had morning assembly and exercises indoors. THEN, we played some BOMB game, with fake bombs. IT WAS THE BOMB MAN! We had lots of fun... watching people dance. Haha.

After that, it was breakfast time, with a not so good breakfast, we still ate till we were full. :P Then it was time for we had a grand total of 2 talks, concerning RESILIENCE. It was really exciting, so exciting, till i can't really remember much. Just kidding. Haha. After that, it was lunchtime. (Even though we were still full) :)

After lunch, we took a short bus ride to the SCDF in queenstown. The place was biggggggggggg. WOW! we had two lectures there, and the first lecturer was damn funny ah! He make joke after joke and we all laugh so much, but we learn alot about earthquake and hiding. AND THENN we learned about chemical bombsss.THAT WAS THE BOMB MANNN!It was damn interestinggg. THEn we had tea time over there. The foood was great! yummmmm i can still taste the eclairs (with e lunch).

AFTER THAT we had IPP EXERCISE! but was not good exercise coz we did not sweat. BUT was very funnn! we covered windows in order to prevent ourselves from getting poisoned but we failed. this exercise thought us the need and the importance to use our newfound knowledge about taping up holes in case of a bomb attack.

AFTER THAT! we went back for dinner! (even though we were full). THE FOOD WAS THE BOMB! thennnnn. we played a skipping game and through sheer determination and a lot of luck, we managed to pull thru as group. WE ROCK! THEN WE PLAY QUIZ FOR VOUCHER AND WAS VERY FUNNN! p.s I WIN TEN DOLLARS!

TODAY was a very fun and productive day, and we learnt about the importance of resilience, teamwork and friendship. I MAKE MANY NEW FRENS! GROUP IV IS THE BOMB! SO MUCH TEAMWOREK, SO MANNY FRIENDS!

this post has been brought to you by alex and pablo, your fillipino friends. PEACE BRO( n sis) ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT:( THIS CAMP SHULD BE FOR A MONTH!

Another day in the YoReCa...everything meets what is expected from all of us. We woke up in the morning and did our morning exercise and the flag raising in the honour of our country. Next was a game or challenge that is called 'key punch'..the objective of the challenge was to diffuse fake bombs made of paper plates. All the plates are numbered from 1 to 50 but written in different languages, in number form or in equation method. All the groups were doing their best but failed in the 1st few attempts. However, after discussing with the other group, we managed to accomplish the challenge. We then went to the Singapore Civil Defence Force located near Queensway. Through the talks, we learnt the threats that are threatening Singapore and ways to overcome these situations. We even learnt how to protect ourself from danger that will happen to us when the alarm or siren is activated. After the trip, we went back to NACLI and countinued our next challenge which is 'confident skip'. This activity allows us to build up our confidence. The 1st attempt which only 1 person running through the moving rope at a time. It was tough as due to their recent or past injuries, it had hindered their courage but...after the 2nd and other other attempts, we were confident enough to do it. Courage and encouragment made us carry on regardless the challenge was. At a certain time, Ms Choy asked us whether we would want to continue the programme. We repplied her that we want to do it. She let us and we tried our best in finishing it. At last we completed it and cheered. She told us that we were determined to continue and that is why we made it all the way till the end. Mr Dubey told us upon his experience that the easiest examination is his PHD. Relating to the challenge and what Mr Dubey told us, we found that it is the same and it can be related to anything in our life. Through this experience, we, as student leader, can help build up other people's confidence, becoming a good leader in leading the others to become a better youth. They also mentioned that we are the next generation in leading Singapore. Furthermore we've learnt that we as Singaporeans can make Singapore a better living place regardless of where we come from. We can say that this camp is a very great camp which may be boring at times but will be a memoriable learning camp and this can be felt by doing reflections or talks.

Team 3 TIGER (day 2)

Day 2,

We started off with a rainy morning, BUT our moods are not dampened by the rain. We were unale to have morning exercise outdoor, but fortunately Team Checkmate managed to organize a fun and exciting indoor physical training. The forfeit was the best part as everyone of the team went up to stage to dance.

2 lectures were next. Both were enriching as we learnt about Singaporeans' acceptance towards other ethnic groups as well as how helpers from Singapore helped victims of the tsunami that occurred during boxing day in 2004.

Before having lunch, we were delayed by a game called Key Punch. We worked together as 1 YoReCa team towards our common goal (LUNCH). We went through numerous difficulties during the game, such as: finding out that there were missing numbers among the 50 numbers of different languages, color, size, pattern, etc. written on the paper plates. we managed to overcome the language barrier and shared infomation with other teams. We even motivated ourselves by grabbing a tin of cookies before leaving the 'bomb site'.

We had a sumptious lunch, as usual, then set off for the field trip to Singapore Civil Defence Force. Another 2 talks were given by the officers from SCDF. The 1st talk was extremely humorous and easy to comprehend. Basically what we learnt from this trip were emergency procedures during situations such as tremors and chemical leakage(IPP). Although these procedures may be simple and basic, they can actually be of large help should the crisis emerge.

After dinner, we had our 2nd challenge of the day, Confidence Skip. Everyone were to run through the rope and there were 7 stages in which each stage, the difficulty increases. Finally, we completed this task although we were behind schedule by an hour. We learnt that in life, we have to make choices and sometimes we are in a dilemma facing 2 different choices. Just like in the game, we are given the choice to stop and move on to the next activity. however, we chose to perserve and show resilience by choosing to complete all 7 levels of the game.

Now here we are blogging about the various events that occurred in this fruitful day. Look forward to our next blog post. WE WILL BE BACK!~

Day 2 YoReCa camp Checkmate =P

hello :)

Second day of the week,
Second day of the camp,
Second day together.

woke up early in the morning for flag raisin today. our grp was IC for this important part of the day and also including the morning exercise.

unaffected by the rainy weather, (although the activities were) we sat for 2 talks at a go, 1 by Ms Yolinda abt racial harmony and Ms Yeo with her experiences as a psychologist in the Asian Tsunami disaster which devastated Phuket and several other countries.

the first talk was very enlightening, as we learnt abt how different races are accepted and unaccepted by others. the second talk was even better, looking at different pictures around the disaster devastated country where we were brought through the whole process where different associations worked together to achieve a common goal, helping the disaster stricken country.

after the long run of theoretical activities, there was a change of environment, in which we had a game called Key Punch.

a circle is lay out by a rope and plates are placed within it. according to numerical order, groups will have to hit the 'bombs'. as team no.1 we started first, we went into the learning lounge, where the game started. starting out, we were quite surprised by the different languages of the numbers. as the game went on, we found out abt the lacking number of plates and started taking down the initials for the different numbers.

lunch was delicious. followed by the field trip to Singapore Civil Defence Force.

sitting through the audience-engaging talk, we learnt abt emergency procedures we needed to act upon. for example, wad to do during tremors and tsunamis... afterwards, a policeman took over the speech and talked abt unconventional disasters. in an event of a chemical attack, one muat learn how to seal oneself in a room using only masking tape and garbage bags. Following this, each group was given a chance to put our knowledge to the test. We got to the training centre n practised sealing up a room. (very waste) we had to do it within 3 minutes or "poisonous" smoke would be pumped inside. In the end we all didn't die. Yay.

Our final activity of the day was a variation of the game most of us know as "skipping". Choy would give us challenges n we had to find a way to overcome it, with the promise of $1 ice cream if we completed the task. After around 2 hours, exceeding the time by 1 hour, we finished all 7 tasks, and of course did not manage to get the $1 ice cream:(. but it still was exhilarating and ended off with a BANG!

YAY

woohoo...:)

YORECA Team 1 Blog :D

Today was the 1st day of camp, everyone meeting in the Learning Lounge early in the morning. The situation there was just like the 1st day of any other camp, everyone sticking to their school cliques and cluster groups. However these were quickly broken up by force and everyone had to split up.

Interesting way of getting the groups split up though, with four people exploring their own methods of finding their group mates. Nicolette chose to shout loud, and soon everyone was gathered. Team One, later known as Checkmate met for the first time.

Team 1: Alex, Liang Wei, Zhe Wei, Zheng Jie, Deela, Nicolette, Randi, Joel, Gerald, Collin, Rachel, Qurratu, Dil, Fara, Hong Xiang, Hiang Ngee, Edmond, Iky (:

Group dynamics are awesome, as was demonstrated in the War Chant game, and under the awesome leadership of Alex (in the end our Team Leader) and great newfound teamwork on our part, we triumphed. Ahead by 7 points made it a sweet victory, and I guess it built confidence in us that we were going to be a great team.

Team mascot’s a cow, with no violent objection from the team, maybe because of the previous reference of being “Cowboys & Cowgirls” in the War Chant game, or maybe because our group is udderly (mine the pun) insane. Team name’s Checkmate, again passed with no criticism, and Alex & Rachel’s bright idea. The flag turned out pretty, and our cheer, is sadly still in progress.

The trip to the place that I cannot really mention was quite insightful, the HTA, mostly because of the section where we learnt more about CBRE weapons, where the exhibits were interactive, engaging the senses. I cannot really talk much about it because I’m not really supposed to, but in short I guess it let us learn more about the threats that Singapore faces, the defenses that Singapore has to overcome these threats, but more importantly about community engagement. Quite enlightening, and of course the bonding with the group was quite fun as well.

Our mad skit depicting a nationwide blackout further explained how nutty camp was going to be with this group. With taitais and bimbos screaming away and people falling to the ground, with our himbo narrator dear Gerald, it was just great. Tomorrow’s going to be wackier.

As I type this, we’re all well fed, and the other half of the group is dancing to Chori Chori, some Hindi song which we’re all going to high to, which is quite fun I suppose. Challenging, but with our group dynamics – no problem I guess ;D

First day!

Its 10.30pm now and we're still not asleep and we are so not tired. We were really
amazed by what we saw at the Home Team Academy(HTA). We'll you really gotta hand it to them (Home Team consists of 9 key government organisations, betcha didn't know that) for running things so smoothly and protectintg this Lion City every single day, without fail even when she sleeps.

Well, the exibhits were sooo cool.(But due to security concerns we can't elaborate). Lots of cool information and practical tips were shared to us during this sessions. But of course we must admit it lah, at first most of us were like expecting the typical government propaganda thingy, but at the end of the visit, it really dosen't matter, because you feel proud of the Home Team and Singapore as a whole. Not kidding, guys.

These guys contribute so much to our safety even though they aren't often given recognition. Well, even then you guys out there need to also realise that we all as a community need to help our men in uniform in being alert for threats and remain united as one People, one Nation, one Singapore,no matter what.

WE LOVE SINGAPORE!! :D

November 17 day 1

Today everybody from different school came together to this camp called YoReCa...at first we mix only with our schoolmates but not others. We were then split into 4 diferent groups. Ours was called the yellow team at first. We got to know each other through the icebreakers just only the names. After the icebreakers, things just get better every minute as we played this game called war chant. Through this activity we learn to cooperate and understand the needs of a resilience person. For example we need to cooperate with the leader and support the leaders opinion or instruction. Around in the afternoon, we went to the home team academy and was brief of what the home team academy was all about. It was built to strengthen the bonding between the officers and understand each other situation unlike the previous encounters they faced for example, went there is an acccident the police and the ambulance came to the site and did thier things. Now they come together to learn each others job and hence can cooperate with each other. We then explored the facilities in the home team academy and found out that they are different people doing different jobs and they did thier best in involving the communtiy to work together to ensure th safety and security in Singapore. After all the trip, we headed back to the camp and view a video about the past riots occur in Singapore. Through that we came up with a skit and soloutions to each skits and now we are doing a blog. Through this activity we learn alot of things in just 1 day. We hope to see more things which are more interesting and enjoyable.

1st day at YoReCa

Today is the first day of the YoReCa camp. We are staying at NACLI. Live was good! Food was good! The game was good! Everybody was given their respective air-conditioned rooms, heated showers and luxurious beds. Wonder which other camp offers such luxury!

Apart from the luxuries, what was more interesting and definitely beneficial was the new friendships forged. Through the icebreakers, we learnt more about each other in the team. This was exceptionally difficult for people like our friend Mubasysyir who was the only one representing his school. But above all, we were able to overcome our differences and bond together as a team.

After a sumptious lunch, we proceeded to the HTA. Only upon reaching there, we realised what a cool building it was. Due to security reasons, we are not able to disclose any information about the premise, however, in brief, the HTA conducts joint specialisation training for members of the Home Team. Simulation based training is also conducted there to enhance the performance level of the officers. We learnt how to respond during times of crisis and external threats.

Basically, that was it for the day. After a refreshing shower, we are now here blogging about our the great time we had today. haha... watch out for our next blog....=)

Hello YoReCa!

Hi everyone and welcome to your blog! We hope you had an enjoyable time today, mingling with your fellow teammates and making new friends! So what are you waiting for, start blogging now! =)
