Today was the 1st day of camp, everyone meeting in the Learning Lounge early in the morning. The situation there was just like the 1st day of any other camp, everyone sticking to their school cliques and cluster groups. However these were quickly broken up by force and everyone had to split up.
Interesting way of getting the groups split up though, with four people exploring their own methods of finding their group mates. Nicolette chose to shout loud, and soon everyone was gathered. Team One, later known as Checkmate met for the first time.
Team 1: Alex, Liang Wei, Zhe Wei, Zheng Jie, Deela, Nicolette, Randi, Joel, Gerald, Collin, Rachel, Qurratu, Dil, Fara, Hong Xiang, Hiang Ngee, Edmond, Iky (:
Group dynamics are awesome, as was demonstrated in the War Chant game, and under the awesome leadership of Alex (in the end our Team Leader) and great newfound teamwork on our part, we triumphed. Ahead by 7 points made it a sweet victory, and I guess it built confidence in us that we were going to be a great team.
Team mascot’s a cow, with no violent objection from the team, maybe because of the previous reference of being “Cowboys & Cowgirls” in the War Chant game, or maybe because our group is udderly (mine the pun) insane. Team name’s Checkmate, again passed with no criticism, and Alex & Rachel’s bright idea. The flag turned out pretty, and our cheer, is sadly still in progress.
The trip to the place that I cannot really mention was quite insightful, the HTA, mostly because of the section where we learnt more about CBRE weapons, where the exhibits were interactive, engaging the senses. I cannot really talk much about it because I’m not really supposed to, but in short I guess it let us learn more about the threats that Singapore faces, the defenses that Singapore has to overcome these threats, but more importantly about community engagement. Quite enlightening, and of course the bonding with the group was quite fun as well.
Our mad skit depicting a nationwide blackout further explained how nutty camp was going to be with this group. With taitais and bimbos screaming away and people falling to the ground, with our himbo narrator dear Gerald, it was just great. Tomorrow’s going to be wackier.
As I type this, we’re all well fed, and the other half of the group is dancing to Chori Chori, some Hindi song which we’re all going to high to, which is quite fun I suppose. Challenging, but with our group dynamics – no problem I guess ;D
